Hey, I just bought the Neo Ion Ipod adapter for my 02 Explorer and I'm trying to install it myself. To install the adapter, I need to connect the adapter's yellow wire to a constant 12V+ wire. I was wondering if the constant 12V+ wire is the yellow wire like on the cable that came with the harness or is it another color? Also is there another way of connecting it to this wire without splicing the wire? I don't wanna screw myself over.

Thanks

Thanks BigRondo, should I cut into the wire and attach the one from the ipod adapter while still leaving it attached to the harness, or should I completely cut the 12V+ wire from the harness and splice it with the adapter? Or is there another easier and safer way to do this? Sorry for all of the questions, but I'm a complete newb and I'm trying to install this by myself. Too much male pride probably.

You can use a quick splice terminal. They are available at all auto parts stores, Walmart, Lowe's, Home Depot, etc. Make sure you disconnect the neg(-) battery terminal before doing any electrical work. There is a section in the owner's manual for the computer re-learning procedure after the battery has been disconnected. If you don't have an owner's manual I can give you the instructions. Just let me know.

Here is a picture of what the quick splice terminal looks like:

Hope this helps out. :salute:

Here is a site with a video showing how to use the quick splice terminal. Note that in the video that both wires he put in the connector are able to pass through the connector. You want the quick splice terminal that only allows 1 wire to pass all the way through and stops the second wire 1/2 way through. I hope that didn't confuse you too much. Here is the link: http://www.etrailer.com/tv-helpful_hints_scotch_lock_564.aspx

This link here shows what I am talking about. This connector only allows 1 wire to pass all the way through the connector: http://www.etrailer.com/p-804C.html

As if I didn't confuse you enough, the different color connectors are for different size wires.

No problem. Be sure to let us know how you make out. :salute:

So I finally got the quick splice that was recommended by BigRondo but when i went to install the adapter I couldnt find the constant 12v wire. All of the diagrams that I have seen are say that wire is light green/purple but its not there. I looked at all of the wires and they are:
green/orange
pink/brown
light blue/white
light green/white
black/pink
orange/red
white/yellow
yellow/tan
light blue/black
red/black
light blue/grey
black
orange/black
yellow/grey
light green/orange

and on the other plug is a yellow wire and a grey/black wire.
I checked the wire diagram and the black/pink, white/yellow, light blue/grey, orange/black, and yellow/grey aren't listed, but on the 2003 wire diagram I saw that its constant 12 v was white/yellow and was wondering if this could be the same for my 2002 explorer?

Thanks

Stand by, going to check my wiring diagram in my Haynes Manual.

According to my Haynes Manual for the 2002 and later base model systems the constant 12V wire is White/Yellow.

Hope this helps:D

No problem. Going back to watching my movie, The Taking of Pelham 123, post up if you need anything else and I will get it on my phone and try to help the best I can. :)

Just wanted to say thanks again, the adapter is in and running perfectly.

It's nice when things work out! Glad you got it in and running properly.
