Look at the door seal and window seal to make sure nothing is torn or ripped or not sealing correctly.

I have water trickling in thru the plastic thru-glass mounts for the struts on my 2005 XLT. Dealer wants to replace the glass!

I checked it out and there are no rips or anything. It is definitely not coming through the plastic anchors/hinges. I can see the wet spots on the seal where the water is making it through.

Water leak

try a good silicone spray on the seals. I had a similar problem w/the seals you mentioned, and the seals had compressed. Silicone spray will revive the seals and should stop the leak. Good luck!

thanks . . . i'll be sure to try that tomorrow. is there a trick to putting it on properly? should i wipe it off of the part that comes in contact with the glass?

silicone spray

Apply the spray to a soft cloth and wipe it onto the seals. I don't think the overspray would hurt anything, but why chance it. Good luck!

thanks for the help. i've also heard that there is a recall on the liftgate glass hinges for the 02 explorer. might this have anything to do with it? i would think that would cause a more pronounced leak.

I just had the liftgate recall done on my 2002 about two months ago. I had the leak around where one of the hinges mounts to the glass, i know this becuase I could see it running down the glass from aorund the bolt. Beware when you go to have it done. My dealer told 45 min to 1 hour, I was there almost 3 hours.

On a side note. Now that I have had the recall done every time it rains I get water in my cargo liner and we have yet to figure out where that is coming from but it's not from the hinges. I don't know that is related as I only owned it a couple days before getting recall done and until recently it was garaged while at home and work.

I wasn't aware of a recall, but I'll look into it. Thanks for the info.
