My 2002 Explorer Sport 96K miles suddenly won't start. I went out with it this AM and made several stops with no problem. Came home and was going out about a half hour later and it will not start. No crank, no click, nothing. Lights, wipers, windows also will not work. Electric locks do work.

I checked all fuses and put battery on a charger for a couple of hours, but no luck. Tried starting in Park and Neutral, and even tried jump starting using my wife's Tacoma. Still, turn the key and not a sound.

Went to local Ford dealer and described problem to the service manager. He gave me the usual "it could be anything", but couldn't or wouldn't suggest anything to check.

Seems strange that it was running fine and suddenly its DOA.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Check the small starter wire see if it is still attached to starter, mine rotted out so I replaced the piece of wire and voila. If your's is ok it could be the starter itself. I replaced mine the day after I got my truck, because it did the same thing.

Cano,
Thanks for your suggestion.

I spoke to my neighbor who owns a body shop and he said it was the battery, even though it started in the morning and wouldn't start a half hour later. Well, he was right. I bought a Interstate battery on sale for $80 and it started right up.

Off topic - I am a Habs fan here in NJ, but was really happy to see the Jets return to Winnipeg. I hope they do well this season. Sorry we had to ruin your home opener. LOL
