I was wondering if I replaced the muffler on my 2002 Sport Trac with a Flowmaster 40 or 50 series muffler and left everything thing else alone what kind of sound would I get. Also would this pose any problems in the future etc etc.

Your best bet is to just spend the money on a cat-back system. Buy a muffler from summit and have a shop put it on and make pipes from the outlet to the back of your truck. shouldnt cost more than $200.

The reason I dont want to go that way is because I dont have that much money for that at the moment. If I go my way what kind of sound will be produced.

It will be a slight increase if any. The sound is produced due to the increase of air flow coming out of the muffler. If you leave the stock tail pipe on there it is still going to be restricted. Save your money and do it right the first time. Trust me you will be happier in the end.
