Hello everyone, new here but not new to vehicles/mechanics.

Recently purchased a 03 XLT 4.6 with 100kmi on it. Been having a problem where the truck falls flat on its face when shifting from 1st to second... stays running (obviously) but has zero power (as if it hit a speed limiter), then goes away and I get thrown back in the seat. It will NOT do it if im VERY easy on the pedal OR when the truck is cold... then it shifts perfectly fine. I had a very reputable tranny guy drive the truck (hes very familiar with explorer tranny problems) and is positive its not a transmission issue. Truck has fresh tune-up, fuel filter, TPS sensor and none solved the issue.

Any ideas or input?

Thanks in advance! Nice forum here!

With that many miles, it probably is the transmission. It is likely the previous owner never serviced the transmission, mot doing you any favors. The servo bores tend to wear out causing the "flare shifting" you are describing. They can be fixed, but require some knowledge and going all the way into the transmission. Most shops will insist on a complete rebuild if they are going to do it.

I have an 03 Mountaineer it seems to be doing the same thing with only 80k on it, anyone else have any ideas? Thanks
