03 Cobra rims measure 17X9 with a 26mm offset. These should work on my 97 AWD X, correct?

yes, theyll fit. the amount of rub (if any), however, depends on what size tires you get. keep in mind, that all the posts you read about 95 cobra r rims - those rims have a 24mm offset, so when they say they have a little rub with a certain size tire, you may have a touch more than that person would who said that. on the other hand, manufacturing tolerances are such, that its really vehicle dependent, and you might not have any rubbing at all. most people who pick the right size tire, dont have any rubbing, its only people who want bigger tires under there.

if the difference is 2mm, i wouldnt worry. all "1995 Cobra R 17x9" rules apply. to give you an idea, a CD is about 1.3mm thick. so, the difference will be less than the thickness of 2 CD's... not enough to even make a difference...

thats what I thought... just wanted some other opinions

Ideally, you want at least 1 inch between the tire and the upper a arm. I would say anything less than .5 inches between is too little. If you get some big honkin tires to go with those Cobra rims, you will be sorry, just ask Spas. Below is a pic of mine, in which I have NO rubbing. Those are FWD rims and I am lowered.

yeah I want to get 275/55/17 Pirellis, a lot of X's got those tires on R rims

okay, I've completely ditched the whole 17x8 cobra wheel idea and now I also want the '03 cobras for my Explorer. I don't plan on lowering it but the 275-55-17 size tires should look fine in my opinion without it being lowered. What do you all think, be honest. And is $600 with shipping a reasonable price for these wheels alone???

Thanks again for all your help,

Derek

you can get 03 18x9 for the same price off e-bay

LOL you bumped a thread that was 9 months old!
