- 2003 4.0 AWD Mountaineer
Hello everyone, I'm hoping that I can get some help. I've tried the search function and haven't really found a match for my issue, so please forgive me if it has already been posted.
Vehicle: '03 Mountaineer. 4.0L AWD model. 85,x.. miles.
Issue: Trans shifts perfectly through all gears and into Overdrive, it does have the occasional shutter going into Overdrive, but not all the time. I just noticed a couple of days ago that upon load in O/D the truck felt kind of like it was surging. This was very, very light surging, almost un-noticeable.
Today while driving home I did my best to put it in the same situation: With the trans in O/D and the pedal lightly depressed (RPM @ about 2k) running in the neighborhood of 70MPH +/- the truck shakes fairly bad. This issue can not be replicated at any time that the truck is not in O/D. At no time does it lose power or feel like the transmission is slipping, no clunks, no grinding, nothing.
I'm wondering at this point if the fluid may be getting worn and need to be flushed/re-filled? Filter maybe dirty? I know that I'm past the normal 75k change, but not enough to delay having it done..
Any ideas? I hope that I've done a decent job describing the issue. Please let me know if you need any more info.
Thanks!
