I have a 03 XLT that is stuck in 4X4 high. The light on the dash does not indicate that it is on but you can feel it and and when you try to put in 4x4 high you feel no difference but the light illuminates on the dash.

I have checked the following:

1. Tires (all 4) are new only have lesst than 3k on them. Car ran fine when they tires were replaced.

2. Air pressure in the tires are fine 35 in the rear 30 in the front.

3,. I tried the BWM with no change.

4. Diconnected the battery (positive terminal)

5. 4X4 low works fine

Any help would be appreciated.

Is there a diagnostic test to check to see if it is the module? Or is this just the most likely cause.

Thanks

4x4 all the time

i have similar problem. dash 4x4 high light flashed and was stuck in 4x4 high. i can switch to low but won't come out of 4x4. mechanic told me it was cm. I replaced w new 1 for 160. no fix. replaced transfer case motor and car went into 2wd for about an hour. went over gravel it switched 2 4wd and now won't come out. dash light went out. the only thing i can think of left is wherel speed sensors or adjusting motor switch sensor. if kids leave me alone i will try this weekend. as far as testing cm ? i would also like 2 know if theres a way to test any other part of the system. (motor, wheel speed sensor etc..) good luck both the motor and cm are very easy 2 do w basic skills.

Still no 2wd

Not all there

I have replaced the Transfer case motor and 4X4 Cm and it is still stuck in 4wd H. I have tried to manual adjust the transfer case to 2 wd with no luck. The tranny will not engage when put in drive, 1, 2 or 3 and makes a clicking sound when put in reverse.

Where are the wheel sensors? - there are two sensors on the transfer case itself.

3 bad

if u have traction control there are 4 wheel speed sensors. if not there should only be 3. ive been told w/o trac control 1 sensor is on top of rear diff. i think you can see it from front top side above drive shaft. fronts? by calibers? have not gotten a chance 2 look.

Not All There

I did some research and the sensors that are on the transfer case are output shaft sensors and are wired into the harness of the transfer case motor. The attached thread states that these are what determines if there is slip if there is no stability control

When I get some time I will pull the sensors and investigate
