You can place jack stands to raise the front wheels off of the ground just behind the front wheels on the frame rail. Just move them back a bit from the angled part of the frame rail to the straight part of the rail. I jack up my Explorer all the time at this spot on the rail and have had no problems at all there. On the passenger side, keep in mind the gas tank is located just behind the frame rail, more towards the rear of the vehicle, but something to remember when jacking up the vehicle using the frame rail.
Diamond cut outs are the lift points so jack stands can be placed there. Lift vehicle from underneath lower control arms. BTW, no lifting the rear from the differential (pumpkin). It's aluminium.
