034x4's D44 SAS thread...

I think this is my first post here, but i've used this board for alot of research on explorer and ranger SAS. So i finally decided i should post my project and it's progress so far.

The truck originally is a 2003 edge 4x4. 37,000 miles with 4.10's/LS.
I had 3" body lift, fiberglass front fenders and cut rear fenders to have plenty of clearance for 35x12.50 BFG mudders. Made a trip down to savannah and on the way home my passenger hub bearing pretty much exploded. Taking with it, the pass knuckle, caliper, rotor, bent inner tie-rod, ground flat outter tie-rod. I already had the D44 in preperation for the SAS but with this, i decided to go ahead and start on it.

This is the ranger, in the beginning.

I blew up my d44 R&P yesterday wheelin the 42's lol. I'll post some carnage pics this evening.

eww cool. So is it getting new gears or a set of rocks?

where da pics at ?

he didnt end up splodin the r&P, he broke the pinion flange and stripped the splinage on the pinion shaft...

Oh ok.... do they have heavy duty pinions for the LP 44 like they do with the 9"? (You can buy a "pro" pinion, or something like that, that's 35 spline as opposed to 28 spline)

I think all D44 pinion shaft diameters are the same (and same spline count).

But wow to strip a pinion shaft requires quite a bit of torque! I'm surprised the transfer case or the axle shafts didnt break before.

One question, are the axle shafts stock? Or are they aftermarkets?

I have yukon chromo's and ctm's in the front and superiors in the rear.
Gotcha thanks.

Wow so the input flange cracked - amazing

So its a full-on truggy eh? :D

Are you still running that kind of 3/4 elipitical leaf spring design?

combine the last 2 designs and your lookin badass.

Yup.

What i'm planning on doing is using this design in the rear

and cutting the frame off right after the pivoting shackle mount-hanger. I'll have 2 tubes that come off the back of the exo and act as the bumpstops for the shackles for now, so when I get rocks' and 4-link it I'll be extending the wheelbase slightly and I can just chop those 2 tubes off and have a 90*+ departure angle.

Well i'm not dead, if anyone was wondering.

Sold the 42's. They were too big for the truck (rubbed EVERYTHING up front).
Just got back from river rock, my doors are all beat in.
You can see the pics here http://www.aimoo.com/forum/postview.cfm?id=651605&CategoryID=427418&startcat=1&ThreadID=2628417

The end of this month I will be doing another ranger SAS for a member of another board, and in return be getting some tubing for an exo, so that should start soon there-after.
