04-06 sport model 2dr..hard to find

i have an 01 sport 4x4 2 dr that is getting on 90K. Started to look for a new sport the other day, a 2 door 4x2 and cannot seem to find one anywhere.
Are these even still made? is the sport designation even around anymore?

Can someone breakdown the meaning of the desginations of xlt, xls etc and what is available in 2 door 4x2.

I dont need the 4x4 and like the clean line of the new explorers, but really dont want or need the length of a 4 door.

2dr Sport was discountinued and production stopped in the summer of 2003.

Thanks, so no 2 door, sport or not, after fall 03?
What about the disignation of the 04-06 models?
What is the shortest(lenght) model now?

All of the 04-06s (all 4 doors) are the same length. Somewhere around a 115" wheel base. The 2 door Sports were around 102" wheel base.

Thanks, doesnt seem like that much of a difference. Looks like i will be getting a 4 door.
That figuired out and said. I like the clean lines of the explorer without any of the plastics and such. what "version" am i looking for, i want power.
How difficult to lower the 4x2's as compared to the 01 sport (simple).

What about general issues with the newer models, anything in particular i should really be aware of before purchasing?

When you say power, I assume you mean power options? All explorers come with power windows/locks/mirrors these days. The low end explorer is called XLS, the XLT is pretty much the sport equivilant. Then you have the eddie bauer and limited. I don't believe the NBX is available anymore.

You can't lower or raise the 02-up 4 door explorers very much, the 4 wheel independent suspension limits modification drastically.

90K is not really that much for an Explorer. Are you having problems with it? Sounds like you want to get something new but since you want something sporty your best bet might be a low mileage '03 Sport.

The 01 i have is fine, few minor things, but i really just want to get away from the 4x4, i just dont need/use it, ever. And to be honest i like the cleaner body style of the new EX's. Just time for a change.
