- 2004 XLS Explorer, 4.0
Howdy, I have a 2004 XLS Ford Explorer it has as of now 133,000+ miles on the odometer, that I purchased almost a year ago. I drive it 4 miles to work and 4 miles back home, 4 days a week. So I don't drive it a whole lot. When I purchased the Blue Bomber, as I affectionately call this thing, I was told it was a one owner vehicle, which was sort of true....one owner, many drivers as this was previously an ex-rental unit. I noticed immediately that the shift indicator on the dash, when placed into Drive, sits between Neutral and Drive so I'm assuming it had some transmission related work done to it by someone in a rush. Moving along, the Blue Bomber is a city vehicle and I live right dead smack in the middle of Denver. Anytime, I have to make a turn onto another street the vehicle shifts into first gear, mind you the vehicle is not at a stop, and the RPM's go through the roof, is there someway to remedy this. Oh and how do you check the transmission fluid or can't you as I've never owned a vehicle that doesn't have a transmission dipstick...Thanks for your help.
