Please advise: I had my infamous 5R55W failing @ 32,000 miles, the dealer replaced most components of the transmission and has been working fine. It has now 78,000 miles and I want to replace the fluid. He wants $159.00 to do a "flush" but I don't particularly care for transmission flushes; I asked how much to drop the pan and replace the filter, he wants $215.00, what do you guys think? I found this forum and love it! This is my first posting. Regards.

It is wise to replace the filter at this point, so I would go with dropping the pan. You can do that yourself with a few hours time. The only difficult part is putting 4-5 quarts back into the transmission, as it requires pumping it back through the drain plug to fill.

your at 78k now, so you have only 40k on the trans fluid. How is it shifting now? I'm be tempted to hold off for a while.. . .imo, :dunno:

A flush, I've heard is a bad idea in general, drop pan twice, filter once is what I've done before on other trucks. With our '04 Ex we blew out third gear at 53k, now we have 85k no plans yet to change the fluid. When i asked our re-builder if he wanted it back in after a while he said 'No' just drive it, you should be fine for the rest of its life. . . now my paranoid self might be tempted to ignore that.

Honestly ive haven't decided if and when, i just keep reading the posts that pop up once and a while. . .
