2004 Explorer XLT
Hello all,

Got a puzzling one. I have an 04 XLT explorer with the 4.0 drive by wire. From day one its had a very slight miss. Its not bad just a slight miss just enough to shake slightly; give it some gas smooths right out. Drives fine no fuel econ loss that I can tell. Previous owner stated he just had a tune up done and had receipts; So I believe most of these parts are newer maybe 10k miles on them.

I've done alot of searching on here and nothing seems to quite match my problem. I have read alot about IAC but as its an 04 drive by wire so none to clean out.

Also with this roguh Idle there are 0 codes nothing is throwing
So far things I have checked.
All vacum lines seem good no cracks or holes I can find
no change in idle on colder days to indicate a intake gasket or lean codes (have not checked all but so far carb cleaner to about half of the seem areas no race from a leak)

I found one of the strangest things something I have never seen before. Unpluging any single plug the motor does not change, no greater miss or change in idle. For all cylinders no difference. However unplug any 2 just slightly greater miss; only slightly.

This will cause what i would expect random misfire codes for the wires I pull

So i'm thinking poor quality plugs? or incorrect Gap? Causing incomplete burn at low RPM ? I wont have time to pull the plugs for a week as cars at home but I'm not lol.

I'm not real excited to pull the plugs I've had bad luck with Aluminum heads in the past. Any other ideas or things I should check?

THanks in advance
