Woah. Break up that message some, use punctuation, and describe exactly what it's doing.
First off, why did you buy an 04 for a grand and assume it was fine? Obviously somethings wrong for that cheap, and why didn't you test drive it? If the intake has a crack that will definitely keep it from running, or atleast running good. So fix that first

04 explorer

well i knew it had problems with the engine before i bought it.but i didn't know how much ford changed stuff between yrs becuse i found an engine for it before i bought it,it was out of an 06 explorer so i bought the explorer thinking that i would be cover but i wasnt. supposly its 04 only

I don't know much about the newer (newer than a 2nd gen) explorers, but I'm pretty sure an 06 engine would work

explorer

i called all the junkyards in my area they told me it wouldnt work.been threw hell with this i towed it more than anything

Junkyards don't know, they work on every type of vehicle known to man. They don't know everything. Wait for someone with more experience than me to help you decide if that motor will work.
In the mean time, fix your original post or no one is gonna bother reading any more.

If you really want to know if it will fit, call your local ford dealer, they should be able to tell you if it will work. As for the cracked intake, it should run, just not good because that would create a vac. leak. If you have Combustion, Fuel and Air, you should have fire... But yeah if you fix the Intake, it may run better.

the 06 engine will fit fine, as long as they are both sohc engines. you may have to swap intake and exhaust manifolds, and all of the sensors, but the engine its self is the same and will bolt up just fine

Probably, just depends how big the crack is. You need air, fuel, and compression yes, but in a right dosage. Ie something close to 8:1 compression, and 24:1 air to fuel. The air also should be filtered, if it's been drove with that crack it coulda sucked in dirt, damaging the valve seats and cylinder walls making you lose compression.
Post a pic of the crack
