04 stuck in 4x4

I thought it was a DANA transfer case? If these transfer cases are destroyed by towing with only 1 axle off the ground (which both the manual and towing guides say these must be towed with all 4 wheels off the ground) then I would think running different tire sizes would also destroy it (just not as fast)...

OK, I see your point! Misunderstanding on my part. I am not "up" on newer Dana TCs, and the older ones I am familiar with were simple, straightforward gearboxes, no clutches, differentials, or chains! Powering the wheels by a chain just ain't a nice thing, AFAIC. imp

It's my understanding that the clutch always has some drag to it when de-energized so different sizes will cause it to heat up over many miles....

I guess this theory could be tested by putting the whole vehicle on stands and putting it in neutral and spin the rear and see if the front move any...
