I lost from a roll, I was in 2nd gear [manual]
But a buddy of mine who has a cobra said I might have a chance if I launch right.. what do you guys think?

No chance. An '05 v6 Stang does like a 15.3 in the 1/4 mile stock. I know the Ex can't do that.
 






I think it's a 17 second truck stock.
 






So if the drivers are equal. Then no chance. Unless you both hook up a 3500lb trailer.

leave it in drive (D) and try a rolling start at 29 mph--see what happens

let it shift on it's own. It should drop to first and hit second right away, giving you a surprising jump-
resist the temptation to shift it yourself-but do floor it and keep it there.
 






OD on or off?

When I floor it, it seems to red line.. and then delays before it actually shifts... I really need that shift kit and some good ol amsoil..
 






I agree with Jon, that a rolling start from 27-29mph, will be your best bet. It doesn't matter if od is on or not, if your going full throttle it won't shift into od until ~107mph, and you'll hit the speed limiter right before that shift would happen
 






I have no speed limiter.

[When I did have it, it was set at 110mph]
