05 xlt
Hi. I just bought an 05 xlt 4.0 with 83,000. I work in collision repair but I am not a engine mechanic by no means. So hear is my problems. It had the code 2106 and 2135 for the tps. I replaced the tps myself and no more codes but efore I was getting a little over 19 mpg with the bad sensor. Now the best i've seen is 16.7 . I know about the tsb on these produced before 11/04 and it says the PCM has to be reprogrammed. Mine was made 06/05. Was hoping I would not have to do that because it has no other issues. It shifts smooth and runs great but gets crappy milage now.
Would a reprogram help this?

Also I went to rotate my tire and the left rear was very wobbly. I noticed that there was considerably more of the driveshaft threads showing on the right than on the left, so i tightened the nut to 195ft/lbs and it tightened up. I probably got 4 to 5 rounds on that nut. You could see the rust ring still under the nut where someone had loosened it recently. Now the nut is back where it should be and I have driven it over 300 miles with no noise. I commute 40 miles one way and checked the temp of the area around the bearing each trip and they are within a few degrees from side to side. Every thing I have read tells me my bearing should be toast but it drives good with no noise. Any input?
thanks in advance

Would a reprogram help this?It might. But seems unlikely, to me anyway, that the operating tolerance between old tps and new could be great enough to throw off fuel/air calculations that much.

You are a better mechanic than you think (I think). Big question is, did the nut loosen itself during operation, or was it loosened and left that way, or loosened for service, then not tightened adequately? Assuming these hubs use tapered roller bearings, they tolerate a pretty wide range of adjustment, from very tight (pinion bearings), to quite loose (shade-tree mechanic front wheel bearing adjustment.) imp

Did you disconnect the battery when you replaced the TPS?

Have you check for a dirty MAF?
