Was driving the explorer and all of a sudden engine revs like it's in neutral. No noise or anything coasted into a parking lot, I have no forward or reverse gears. It goes into park. Any help would be greatly appreciated. What are the possible issues?

Check the fluid level if it's full you should check for fluid pressure, the pump might have failed. Remove a cooler line and start the engine and fluid should flow, if no flow the pump is not working. This is not a uncommon failure for this transmission I see it every now and then.

If the pump is working it will be a mechanical failure like stripped splines or a broken shaft or part.

Bottom line, if it's full of fluid and it doesn't move you will have to remove the transmission to repair it.

Yeah I have a problem just like that. Can shift into gear and speedo reads up till 40 then engine moves to limp mode, all the while not moving at all. Pulled the transfer case engagement motor, bit it seems to work fine. For me the triangle piece that moves from high to low just free spins. Almost no resistance at all. I wonder if our transfer cases have failed.

Will park hold?

If not I would suspect the transfer case or rear differential, If the rear driveshaft turns and still no movement suspect rear differential or a rear axle.

No it doesn't hold. When I shift from any gear to park I can hear the parking pawl grinding in to place, but then I can still push the x around and move it like it was in neutral. I tried the driveshaft but I couldn't get it to turn. Lost all gears when off road and shifted from 4hi to 4low. Did depress the brake and waited for the light to change to the 4low light before shifting. Also had my brother-in-law under the x in his shop and tried again, couldn't get any movement from any driveshaft.
