After running the 5.0 in my truck for a year now with no issues popping up I figure its time for a working speedometer and associated trouble codes with the dash to be finished.
I swapped in a 99 5.0 from an Explorer with the PATS to match.

On paper with both wire manuals I have matched the wires for the analog dash and gem to be installed and am now tracking the systems with miss matched pinouts to decide what to do to ensure they work after the swap.

I have looked for other posts for people running into issues while installing the older system but nothing on anyone having done this before or at least posting about it, does anyone know of any info?

I can help you get a working speedometer and odomoeter have you seen the posts about using a dakota interface?

Have you considered just using the “guts” from a 98-01 cluster so your cluster still appears to be 05 but actually functions like a 99

I did see the Dakota unit a couple years ago but figured I would still end up with the dash codes after and not sure if the odometer would start working.

I have not considered modifying the cluster, is this an option? Would be a game changer!

Yes it’s an option
The 05 Cluster is same shape and features as the 95-04’cluster that came before it

The Dakota interface (or any other speedometer interface even gps versions avail) can emulate the signal needed to
Make your Speedo and odo happy

A combo of both maybe needed to get a fully functional cluster here. I am not sure if with the 5.0 you can ever make all the body modules happy now as they all talk to each other on the usb network and the cluster is one of the main modules on the 05-11 trucks
With the v6 pcm missing the other
Modules will not be happy.

@410Fortune Jamie. Is this the converter box needed for the 2003 Sport Trac 5.0 conversion to make the speedo and tach function? I read something about tapping in to the VSS signal at the antilock brake wires under the hood. I missed the part about the tachometer.
Dakota Digital SGI-100BT
I see where it says 'Not for use with ABS systems'. Now it has me wondering. I am doing an ABS delete though. I'll keep reading through all of the info that you and others have posted here on the Inet. Thanks

Yes that is the speedometer interface

You tap into the vss signal before the abs brakes
So you can run abs brakes or not, you are not changing the signal sent to the factory abs setup, instead you are using the signal to run the new Dakota box. The Dakota box buffers the speedo signal for the dash and 5.0 pcm
