'06 Mazda MX-5

The new MX-5 (it's not called a Miata anymore) makes its official debut Monday, February 28, at the Geneva Motor Show. There's a raging debate going on about the car over at Miata.net right now, with the yeas over the nays at about a 3 to 1 ratio. Some details about the car is it will have a 2.0L 4 cylinder, a six speed manual transmission, side air bags, and rollover protection. More pictures can be seen here

I personally think that the days of owning my '01 LS are numbered.

I like it, I thgink droping the name Miata is a mistake though. I know names are "out" and dumb alphanumeric model descriptions are "in" but still.

The Del Sol of Mazda! I think dropping Miata is a good thing. Miatas are known as women cars.

Actually, there is some talk going on that the "Miata" name is being dropped because Mazda had a 15 year licensing agreement with the Miyata bicycle company for use of the name, and the license has expired. How much truth there is to that, I don't know.

It's a perfect commuter car. Although I would prefer to have the Mini Cooper first before that.

Why don't they like it in the Miata forums? It looks pretty good to me (for a Miata, anyway).

Some people are complaining abot the styling, but others are complaining because it is slightly heavier (and there had been rumors going around that it was going to drop in weight), and more complaints are about the engine only having 160-170 HP (the exact figure hasn't been released). IMO, I think that should be plenty of power. My '01 is rated at 140 HP, and it is plenty quick enough to get my butt in trouble if I don't pay attention. Hell, my Explorer is rated at 160 HP, and it weighs over 1000 pounds more than the MX-5.

I graduate 14 months and you already know I want a Miata as my daily driver...

So hang onto yours for another year and i'll drive to the beach one weekend and take it off your hands
