Hi,

Intro:
  • Model is 4.6 V8 2006, 150K Miles
  • Every 5K Miles oil & filter replacement: Castrol Magnatec 5w30 - warm climate
  • Old gear issues: Transmission is regularly kicking (tried to change fluid - not helped)
  • Generally no issues nor flashing warning lights
Problem:
  • Prominent especially on cold start ups, then during red light stops occurs moderately.
  • When "Parking", "Neutral", "Reverse" - Normal.
  • Shifting to "Drive" - Rattle noise: Feels vibration thorough steering wheel & brake pedal, though as noise not really loud (more the rattle feeling on hands and legs through wheel/pedal).
Root cause?
  • The occurrences on cold start ups, might suggest engine or timing chain?
  • Though only happens when in "Drive" gear, plus transmission regularly kicking when switching gears might suggest Transmission & specifically shifting into first gear?
Would like to hear what you think and where might be the problem.

Thanks in advance,

Maybe you have two problems, broken transmission mount and sticky solenoids inside the transmission? Solenoids control everything in the 6R. When you changed out fluid did you use Mercon LV? Hard to simulate a flush, but two drain and refills at oil change intervals should come close.
