I have an 07 Sport T. with 97,000 miles. Went to the store 2 miles from the house. Went in for 5 minutes and got back in the truck. At the stop light I could hear revving but thought it was the garbage truck behind me. A minute later the temp light came on and the temp gauge was pegged. I pulled over and shut the engine off. Got out and popped the hood. No bad smells and no coolant overflow. Looked at the truck for about 2 minutes and I realized I had not pulled off of the road enough. I got back in and cranked the truck to get out of the road and everything was back to normal. Drove the truck the rest of the way home with no issues. Recently I have noticed that I have higher rpm's than usual going up and down hilly areas and lags shifting into overdrive gears. My wife asked me if I had it in third gear while driving the other day because of the higher rpm's. Don't know if related but I park daily on an incline and sometimes when shifting from park to rev. I get a distinct bump when the truck engages. It is a V6 with a transmission radiator. Any thoughts?

overheating

I had exactly the same experience you described including the roaring fan. I found that the radiator was slightly low due to a tiny leak, barely seepage, hidden from view. I added a tube of stop leak. I was puzzled how it could go from overheated to okay when restarted so I replaced the thermostat since it's inexpensive and easy. Eighteen months and the problem never returned. Even after a flush and fill by the Ford dealer, with no additional stop leak, the radiator remains sealed.

Follow up. First of all thanks Capn' Jack for your reply. Took the truck into the dealer. I had a leak in the thermostat housing assembly. This caused the coolant level to be low and the truck was revving because according to the mechanic the sensor was compensating to keep the engine cool. They said that the thermostat housing assembly was rotted and crumbling and had to be replaced.

Labor 330.30 ($99 of that is diagnostic which doesn't even apply to the
repair. $99 just to tell me whats wrong)
Thermostat Assembly 37.97
Anti Freeze 36.76
Connection-Wiring 22.58
Thermostat Housing 63.46
Sender Assembly 39.99
O Ring 4.06
Gasket 6.75
Collant Flush 31.19
Shop Supplies 19.82 (I always love this one. Might as well figure in the A/C bill
for the shop while your at it)
Tax 21.87
TOTAL: $614.75

Not really looking for the usual "That's what you get for taking it to the dealer" or the old "You could have done that yourself and saved". Just giving a follow up because I saw some regulars complaining about newbs who show up just to find out what's wrong with their truck then never follow up.
