New 2008 explorer owner (1 month) and I've experienced the following problem several times: While pressing the brake pedal at a red light or stop sign the engine rpm starts increasing on its own trying to drive me into the guy in front of me. Putting the gearshift into N or P will cancel this problem and put the engine back to idle rpm. Took it to the dealer and he couldn't find anything wrong. He did upgraded the computer program. It has happened once again since the upgrade so that didn't fix it. Have learned to keep my right hand on the gearshift when stopped. I only drive with my right foot so it's not a case of riding both the brake and accelerator pedals. Any thoughts from someone??? Thanks.

Have the dealer install a Ford Vehicle Data Recorder.
When the problem surfaces you press button and it records the system data
helping to identify intermittent issues.

Thanks Z06 Vette. Will talk to my "service representative" and see if one's available out here.

I had this issue with my Focus. I had cruise control, and the wire was damaged so when I would drive, the braided wire would fetch up and cause the whole throttle assembly to lock up, this having the RPM sky rocket while at a stop. I changed out my cruise wire and it was never an issue.

NOPSTNS: Interesting; I do have cruise control on it. Do you recall where your damaged wire was located, steering column, underdash, engine compartment, etc ? Did you change or add just a single wire or the whole harness ?

It was in the engine bay at the throttle body. I can't use yours as a guide since I can't see it, but on the focus, both the cruise cable and accelerator cable attach to one piece of metal which operates the throttle plate. This is the same piece that you can manually operate to listen to how the vehicle revs up. The cable had broken strands right where it enters the plastic sheith that is tied to the throttle body. I had to change out the cruise control cable. It cost 25 bucks and was maybe 2 feet long. Hope this helps.
