Hi miles update

:exp: Just an update on my 96 V8. Just about to turn 189000 and still running like a champ. Towed for the first time 3 weeks ago. Had I known to try and hit the fuel tank (which the mechanic did) I would have kept going. Needless to say, one fuel pump later we are on the road again. What a great vehicle this has been. Who knew Ford could make a vehicle that could be shockingly reliable past 100,000, hell past 180,000 miles!! I have driven this truck 62K miles in 18 months and the fuel pump was my first breakdown of any consequence. I lost a tensioner pulley but made it home (barely). I have read that the V6 has a weak tranny. I can tell you that (knock on wood) the V8 tranny kicks a**!

I just turned over 108,000. Been pretty reliable. I had the front brakes, rotors, and calipers replaced this weekend. Pretty much just standard maint, changed plugs at 100,000, tranny at 90,000 by previous owner, radius arm bushings at 102,000, oil every 3000 or less, t-stat around 100,000 three times cause the first 2 were faulty, never done any serious offroading, pretty much my daily driver. Getting ready to get differential and transfer case fluids changed. Very happy overall with this vehicle except for the gas mileage. I can honestly say it was built ford tough, and I'm a GM guy.

My '97 X has about 143,000 and is going up at a rate of 800/week. Basically replaced the transfer case, brakes, rotors, a/c, ball joints, the usual for all intents.
Still running strong and figure I'll just keep it when it's time for another, unless they offer me a ton for trade-in. LOL

I've got 151,500 on mine. I do all work myself and gotta tell you, things could be worse. Sure it has its quirks, but no tranny rebuilds or engine trouble. Just annoying things. Front, lower ball joints(pain in the ass), Lower intake manifold gasket(easy), valve cover gaskets(easier), etc. Check engine light is still on (has been for almost three years now)...code of P0401, Low EGR Flow. I'll be damned if I can figure out why. you name it, I've done it, cleaned it, checked it, replaced it, ohmed it out, kicked it and spit on it. Nothing works. Airbag light is on now with a code blink of 42 and everytime I shift it into reverse, the reverse lights' fuse blows. What do you do? Just drive 'em and maintain them as best you can.

lights go on and off at will cannot drive at night.

Body looks great though......we all know it is better to look good then to feel good.

My 92 XLT broke 160000 miles (260000 km) a short time ago. Only problems I've had in the 60000 km since I bought her:

Ball Joint (pax side)
Some exhaust work(cat back)
brake lines
Minor body work (rocker panels - there was some rust but a rock while off road destroyed them.)
T Case shift Motor

Thats about it.

My 97 currently has 127,000 miles on it....

* Flush and change the transmission fluid every 50k miles
* Change the oil every 2.5k miles...use Castrol SynTec
* New rotors and pads front and back
* All other regular maintenance (spark plugs, wires, tires, trans case fluid, rear axle fluid)

Only Problems:
* Had to replace the EGR valve once
* Had to replace the IAC valve once
* Had to replace the heater box blend door ($1000)

But really, its probably got 160-165K... its had 31" tires for.. i dunno... seems to be forever.

Just turned over 130,000. I bought it with 114,000. Had to change a therostat, and idler bushings. Everything else has been voluntary. Trying to get a little better a little at a time.

So far... Rock Solid.

100,000 Miles!

Hit the 100,000 mile mark last Saturday. Just backed into a slot at the MickeyD on the way back from Deer Camp and knew I had to take the pic.

This is the third vehicle that had multiples of 100K on the clock. My '84 Toyota PU had 205k when I sold it. My '93 Toyota PU had 153k when I decided on some confort in the form of the X.

Other than having to fix the infamous blend door, replace a "lubed for life" (yeah, life of the part!) front hub bearing, and current A/C problems, just the usual stuff.

my truck has 132.x.. and i havent had any trouble with it i've got the V8 engine 2WD i havent had to replace anything only maintance stuff like sparkplugs and fluids, this is the best car i've had
Before this one I had a 94 xl 4x4 sold it with 187.x.. on it and it didnt burn a drop of oil, on its original tranny and ran perfect only had to replace the starter and the radio cuz the original didnt come with a cd player, Sold just cuz i liked the truck i got now
Before the 94x i had a 1989 Ford Aerostar with like 150.x.., the tranny died and its in van heaven now,
I must say that going from the 94 V6 to the 96 V8 has been the best thing i'v done lol its go so much power and the inside of the truck its so much more comfortable since its leather and everything its electric the only thing I miss from the old x Is the 4x4
Ford is the best... I wouldn’t buy a Japanese car... and if i got one as a present i would sell it right away and buy a Ford!

Just came back from a trip to Medford, Oregon.....I was hoping to cross the 100,000 mile mark on my `93 (yes it's the ORIGINAL mileage) I came up a few miles short. It might take a few more weeks to actually hit 100,000 miles.

Original Motor (& accessories), Original Tranny (literally shifts like NEW). K&N in stock box since new. 3" catback since new. Oil Changes range from 2,500-4,000 miles. The only thing that has been 'done' to the X, is the 4x4 shift motor was 'rebuilt' a few weeks ago.

My 96 has 133K. I had to have the tranny replaced at about 60k, luckly I had an extended warranty that covered it. About 130K I had to have a valve job and one of the heads replaced. My rear brakes seem to wear out faster than they should. All these these things not withstanding I LOVE MY X! I will keep it running as long as is practical. I want to replace my wifes rice burner (she bought it BEFORE we met) with another X (although it may end up being an UGGGGH, mimivan). Explorers ROCK!

Man what I would give to be back in the Great Northwest. I love going out to Bummertown on the occasional buisness trip. I Grew up in Oregon just south of Portland.
