Just hit 100,000

My 97 Ex just hit 100,000 a month ago and going strong. I have had no major problems but the left passenger door doesn't open anymore.

My 91XLT has been great

Alternator@100K
Transmission@205K (did not change juice frequently enough)
Radiator/AC Condenser @ 230K (corrosion in the frozen north where salt roams the
earth)
Balljoints/U-Joints @250K

Currently at 270K

I will probably rebuild the engine at 300K it has a lifter tap
at startup that started at 40K but it quiets down after 5 minutes
but it leaks oil like a sieve through both crankshaft seals.

It still gets 21MPG Highway though

X's are the greatest!

My rear brakes seem to wear out faster than they should.

My 92 has 180k with the original rears still in place and only 2 sets of replacements for the fronts. Still on the 3rd set of tires - wahoo!

Just got an 02 with 58k, hope it's at least half as good as the 92 and I'll be happy.

Just crossed the 100K mark in the `93 XLT. It was done on Valentine's day, on the way home from my step-daughter's wedding.

The `93 has been THE MOST reliable vehicle I have ever owned. I think I'll have atleast 1 Explorer in my stable for some time.

100K miles

I have just reached 100,000 miles on my well cared-for '95 Limited. So far, only major repair cost items were top and bottom ball joints (dealer installed) and rear leaf springs (self installed). But then, the rear leaf springs should not count since I swapped in 3" leaves from a Bronco springpack that were purchased on eBay for $5 and picked up myself.

180,000 Runs really well... Got the vent tube problem on the T Case... Got to look into getting that fixed...
Need new tires, Breaks and a few other things...air ride light comes on rear shocks are !"£$% and a few other things but its going.

I just hit 100k on my dri veup to Sugarload, Maine, while in Farmington, Maine last Sat. 3-4-05. She still runs great, but likes to suck down that gas, she's a thirtsy girl. That's the only drawback about her, but she is a 5000 brick with a V8, so hey, what can you expect.

142,500 on my '96 original owner.. Replaced Transmission at 133,500 and alternator about the same time. Other than that only regular maintainance.
The rear brakes seem to last only 40k miles while the fronts last about 60k miles. That seems strange as the rears should last longer than fronts, but the cars stops perfectly.

almost 200k

replaced tranny (5speed) at 176k

new clutches at 115k and 130k. for some reason the new clutch i put in over stock didnt last too long (LUK GOLD), went to an off brand one and it has been running it ever since, even with my new tranny recently replaced.

fuel pump at 130k

thats all the 'regular' work ive done to it.

I bought my 89 new. It currently has just over 182,000 miles on it.

Ford rebuilt the A4LD soon after. I rebuilt it twice myself before junking it out for a C5. Thats was the worst part of this trucks design

I have not been inside the 2.9 other than valve cover gaskets.

Replaced under the hood:
Alternator
Water pump
belts and hoses

Replaced Driveline:
U-joints
Front and rear driveshafts (rear-custom length) (front-B II)
Moved crossmemeber for trans swap
C5 transmsission (B II)
Front locking hubs
Calipers and rotors
Pads and shoes (several times)

Replaced interior:
Radio
Bucket seats (escort GT)
Console (B II)

Replaced body:
Doors (B II w/wing glassses)
Replaced hood, facia, front bumper, grill, passenger headlight (accident)

Thats the big stuff. Everything else is stock. Not bad for driving it 16 years.

I just turned over THE BIG 200 last week!!!

This truck runs purrrfect except for the rear end gears are a little worn out. Over time, I have had to put oh, about $2000 into it for repairs, and I bought it for $4000, so I think I have gotten a good deal.

I just hit 100000 today! My truck is running good except for minor issues that I haven't had time to fix. I did change the driver door handle, an abs sensor went out, my parking brake sensor went out, and my son bent my rear wiper. The other repairs were maintenance or wear.

My X hit 100,000 miles with the past owner. since it was driven on the highway about 100 miles everyday it looks like it has no more than 60,000 to 80,000 miles on it. It currently has 178,000 miles on it. The trans was rebuilt around 126,000, so i should be good for a while.(although i am due for a fluid change) i have found out that the key to maintaining a vehicle is to change the oil every 3k. im sure my truck has lasted so long because people have been kind to it. no unnecessary beating on it (every other kid who's a senoir in high school tends to beat the crap out of their cars, especially the kids with the v8 'stangs their parents bought them) however i think that the engine has developed a slight rod knock (not sure yet) and the balljoints are due to be changed soon. but i plan on having the x through college and as long as i can after that. whence a new car comes i am considering a truck or a corvette (i wish) i am weary of a current generation x because as far as i am concerned they are too big. i'd go with a 95-02 (00?) body style type x. long live the 'exploder'!

Wow, this has got to be the longest running thread. 5 years and still going!

BTW, My 92 XLT turned 100K on May 5, 2000 and just turned 160K last week. Doesn't get driven as often anymore but is still running strong.

And no I don't post here very often. I lurk regularly but seldom post.

92 explorer sport, got it with 85,000 and now has 245,000 hard earned miles. Foot in it every chance i get. No major problems with the 4.0 but the 5 speed mazda has been out getting 3rd gear replaced once and clutch a couple of times. Its been the best truck I've ever had.

Well Then, I have 185,000 on my 96 5.0   :exp: :exp: And She is Running like a Champ!!

I switched from a '97 XLT to a '04 Ltd last September (2004), and on my '97 I had 200'000 km (which translates to 125'000 miles) when I sold the machine. I had no problems at all during those miles. I pull quite a lot (horse trailers, always more than 2 tons) , I still had the first transmission, and the first exhaust pipe ... I love the new '04 (however I lost a good old buddy!)
Ernesto (from Switzerland

138,000 as of today.
heh on tranny number 6 thats SIX, motor number 2, and a whole lot of other stuff. I beat on my X so I cant complain about anything but the a4ld
