I've got a new 2017 Explorer XLT. I could've sworn there was a 12V lighter-type socket somewhere in the forward compartment, but I can't seem to find it. Any help?

Just in front of the cup holders and gear shift there is a compartment door. Open it and you'll find the 12v plug as well as a USB outlet. Should have a bit of a backlit ring around it if I remember correctly (too lazy to go look outside right now, haha.)

According to the Manual, these are the possible locations for the 12V power points;

Power points may be in the following
locations:
• On the lower instrument panel.
• Inside the center console.
• On the rear of the center console.
• In the rear cargo area.

I have the other three. Curious about the lower instrument panel one now...

I just went out and checked mine and also not sure about that one either. Now that Manual did say "may be" so perhaps it is a general statement made to cover different layouts. :dunno:

That's it! Thanks!

The one on the lower instrument panel is apparently the one inside the small compartment just ahead of the gearshift. (It says Sync on the door of this compartment.)

I don't have any inside the center console, just USB ports. I do have one on the back of the center console.

The XLT has USB ports inside the centre console? My Platinum has only the slot for the emergency start in there. The USB ports are in the small forward compartment where the 12V outlet is.

Yeah, the USB port is on the front edge of the opening.

It's there, you need to look again. It's under a small black cover on the front edge of the console towards the drivers side.

I have USB ports in both places - inside the center console and also under the black cover that's ahead of the gear shift.

Found it. When I checked initially I was looking for a 12V outlet and didn't see the USB port up along the edge where I wasn't searching. Also the USB cover was open and that resulted in both the port and lid being very tight to the edge of the bin itself. Thanks all.
