Well my Explorer is getting up to 154k miles but is still running like new. The tranny is still perfect without a single problem.

Would adding any huge mods to my engine just be a waste of money. I was thinking about headers, or something. I need the power but of course I don't want to kill the engine.

What would be some safe performance mods to do on an engine with 154k miles?

Thanks..

well, it depends if youre gonna have a heavy foot or not with the added power. the way i see it, if you add headers and things of that nature, youre reducing restriction, which should be better for longevity, but with the added power, if you start getting lead-footed, thats probably not too good.

Hey Quick, how did you service your explorer's transmission in order to get that many miles out of it? I serviced mine quite often and only got 72,000 before I had to do a rebuild. Just curious so I know what to do next time. Thanks.

I would agree with tbomb. If you make the engine less restrictive, it can last a lot longer. Just try and make the engine not have to work as hard.

Is it possible to make performance mods and NOT have a lead foot? ;)

I've got a 153K on my A4LD, and it runs fine! Although it is a little loose when put in to gear... I drive with a light foot too.

Quick: Why not a good tuneup and a 2.25 cat back exhaust?

Do you have a external tranny cooler? If not i'd advise it since your in texas.

I would go with a KKM intake and a custom cat back exhaust from a local muffler shop.

Then consider a complete fluid change to synthetic.

I would definately add the tranny cooler as previously stated as well as an external tranny filter as Hank and others, myself included have done ( Dead Link Removed _

Keep us posted on what you do... good luck.

Ooops... I see that you already have a KKM and a cat back...

The other suggestions still stand.
