I have a 98 XLT, i want to put on 15x8 rims with 31/10.5/15 tires. After doing some research I found that they will fit. My question is, will the tires stick out beyond the fender with the wider rims?

any input or experience would be great

Whats the backspacing on the rims?

You probably have 15x7 rims now on your explorer. If you do, the stock backspace is probably 4.25" or 4.5". If you get new rims with the same backspace then you shouldn't rub on the fenders at all and may just rub on the swaybar due to the wider rim. But if you go to a backspace like 3.75" which is real popular then you might catch the fenders in a sharp turn as that backspace will put the rims out about 1" further or so than from stock backspace.

Stock bs is 4.5"

stock is 4.5 like tex said, i would go with 3.75, looks better cause less rub, and if any will be on the lil trim that runs along the bottom of the truck, do like i did , go through a mud pubble wheeling to fast and rip them off, lol, well thats what happened to one, so i just pulled the other off and now no more rub, was only slight and not important anyway, but i think it even looks better now,

good luck, u doing the AAL, warrior and TT? also

Thanks for all of your replies.

I plan on doing the TT and shackle thing.
