Now now jim! :nono: Gotta play nice :p

holy crap!

i'll update my pictures later tonight.

also, the truck itself goes in for its house of kolor flamed paint job in two weeks...

Looking great man it's going to sound really great up front. How many layers of glass did you put on the door?

doors have about 6 layers in the places where i layered them thick (only in the weak spots) otherwise they are just fleece. here are pictures

here is my 4" screen in my overhead console, i'll be adding led's to it next so i have a dome light type deal

also here are my tweeter pods that go in the drfrost vents. i imaged them straight up into the windshield after taking a bunch of measurements with string. they will be at just the right distance this way.

do you have to worry about the tweeters heating up by putting them in the defrost vents? are you only going to use one layer of glass on the doors?Lookin good... when you expect this all done?

No there's no problem. I've had my tweeters there for 3 years with no ill effects.

i'll be rerouting the air actually, so it goes straight out the front vents. although, i doubt the heat would be a problem anyways.

like i said, the doors got fleece everywhere, and layers (up to 5 or 6) in the couple of places that seemed weak. I'll be adding a few more layers yet around the speakers themselves so that it can't flex (probably 3-4 layers there). it won't take too much to make it stiff enough that my mids don't cause flex problems.

Expo--

What are your choice products for glassing, such as resins, and the variety of fillers you use later on? Also is the fleece specifically for this application or is it regular fleece that could be found at the local fabric store?

List up what you use for a quality 'glassing job.

Oh and i mighta missed it, but after all this is done are you tryin to get into truckin, or got somethin lined up already?

Keep up the work.

i use bondo brand resin from home depot, its cheap enough and if you get it when its fresh its plenty good for anything (fresh look more red then green)

i used a special mold fabric fleece from selectproducts for all of the stuff i've just posted. However, there is no problem with using regular fleece like what is available at walmart (about $3 a yard there for an ugly pattern- i just got 12 yards of penguins lol) except for its thickness. if your doing something fairly small you can't have the added thickness (say on kickpanels) that using that sort of fleece provides. In that case the select products stuff is far better.

as far as body filler goes, i like to use kitty hair stuff from whichever auto parts store carries it for things that still need some stiffening and strength. For finishing i use polyester filler from that same line. I think its the stuff they have at carquest maybe. I also just recently purchased some spray on polyester filler that i will be using on the larger pieces which should really speed up the sanding process.

ooh, i also get the "glass" fabric itself that they have at home depot, it is the bondo brand. I used it on those door panels when i did the strengthening for example, and it works great. the stuff with the big open rattly looking pieces is better for strength, and the tighter knit fabric is best for smaller pieces where you don't want a big mess.

i guess really i don't use anythign special at all- just the junk i can get within 10 miles of home. I don't put much stock in buying more expensive resins or fillers.

as for truckin' i know a staffer and i've been bothering him incessantly. truth is i probably will never be in there though

ok ive seen all these threads using bondo and fiberglass and i have a question. how do you do it? haha. Heres what i got so far, please let me know what i have right and wrong.

first make a model of what you want it to look like.
take fleece and stretch it over and use bondo to harden it?
sand it down and paint?

im sorry these are stupid questions but please help me out

lets not discuss it all here- talk to me on aim and i will be able to point you in the right direction for the size piece you are trying to make etc.

I'd do a full right up of how i do things, but i'd rather keep it sort of a mystery or somethign so people pay me to do it for them (which i'm more htan willing to do for anyone with $ lol)

There is never a stupid question. You forgot another part, fork over a bunch of money to someone and then sit and wait. LOL, had to throw that option in also. I wished I knew how, I would do it myself also, I sure got the time.

Close:
Build frame
Stretch fleece over and staple for shape
Cover fleece in RESIN to get it solid
Use fiberglass mat inside to strengthen any areas (mat + resin painted over the mat)
Bondo at the end to smooth it out and then sand the bondo
Prime
Paint
Behold :p

cool... good to hear that large heavy duty projects can be taken on, and work with local common products instead of high end specialty products...
