My 1991 4wd is stuck in 4x4 and low range. I have tried to back up while pressing the electric button, but nothing happens. I had problems getting it to engage a week earlier, but it started working for a while. Now it is stuck and I cannot drive over 20mph or steer more than a full turn.

Can anyone offer a solution to a similar problem?

Monte,
DId you put the vehicle in nuetral and keep your foot on the brake, then push the low range button? This is the sequence,i believe, for disegaging 4-low.

From what I have heard and read, I think this link will help you. Dead Link Removed
I would first recommmend disconnecting the battey cable for a few minutes and then reconnecting and trying again. There is an electric motor on the transfer case that engages/disengages 4WD. Many times, the motor will lose sense of where the rotation is and just stop. By doing the battery cable thing, it will probably solve your problem. If not, this link will tell you how to fix the motor in detail.

What do Playboy and National Geographic have in common? Just a couple of the places I will never get to visit :(
