Why factory? It's simple to install an aftermarket and gives much better sound no matter what the brand!

Just want it to look good. If I get an aftermarket, how easy is it to install? 92 XLT

It's not hard at all, you'll have to cut the factory harness, but at Crutchfield.com you can get a harness that connects to your factory one, so you wouldn't have to do any wiring. If you decide to not get the harness then it's not hard... just have to do some matching ... I have a diagram for what color each wire is if you do decide... but I installed my own without a diagram and didn't have much trouble. Some of the speaker wires weren't hooked up right so I just did guess and check and got it to work.

OK sounds convincing but what size radio do I need for a 92?

Just a DIN size. It would slide right in. I've had 2 receivers within the last year 1/2 and haven't really compared size... Just find a DIN and it should work for you. But make sure it's not double-din.

Hello, any din size radio should go into the factory spot with out any mod. at all. There are even some companies that make trim rings for aftermarket radios that will clean up the install even better. oh and btw, (sorry huskyfan23 ) do NOT cut your factory harness...if you haven't I mean. A simple Multi Meter will tell you 12v, switched, illumination etc, but when it comes to the speaker wires you may get them all to work but if the polarity of even one of the speakers is backwards ( the - is backwards from the + the speakers will sound terrible. No bass, bad focus, just bad. Get a harness from best buy or circuit city and have fun!

Agreed, Go with aftermarket... your quality will be 100 times better (bc a stock cd player will now be over 10 years old!) Its simple to install. Get a harness and its basic plug and play. Same goes for new door speakers. Get the harness for a few bucks and they are simple to change out. The worst part is takin off the door panel, and even that only took me about 5 minutes to figure out.

Yeah, I knew which were + and - , I just forgot to mark which ones were front left, etc. New speakers make a huge difference too, when I took out my factory speakers they were pretty bad looking. New ones last lots longer and sound a whole lot better. The door panels just pull right off, at least on mine, so it's well worth doing it yourself, a 2 wire hookup, it's great!

check out the pioneer.

Stevedud: what do you have in there now? Dom yo have the sub in the back? The connections are different with premium sound....

crankcase, I think it is a premium radio, it has the toggle volume control. Do I need a special adapter for premium? I don't think I have a sub, how do I check? But based on the quick reference thread, premium (because of toggle) had an external amp.

The premium sound has an amp. The sub is in the back of the vehicle, on the passenger side. There is either a speaker grille, or a pocket there. The amp has to be bypassed for a better sound, they make wiring harnesses for that.
