1992 explorer automatic 4x4 trans fluid

Can I use type F fluid in my transmission on a 1992 explorer automatic 4x4?

That would result in burned fluid, and Mercon/type F don't mix well. Just grab some Mercon, usually its cheaper at the store then the type F anymore

Mercon V is what you need. Don't try to use Mercon SP or Type F. You should be able to find Mercon V under Walmart's generic label, or under Valvoline. Mobile and Royal Purple ATF's work too.
