i have a 1993 explorer that i bought brand new..It now has 180,000 miles on it and it run like a top. The transmission shifts smooth as the day it was new and the motor runs like a colck and doesnt even shake at an idol. The only thing i did to it so far is a fuel pump..everything else on the motor is still factory..is this the norm for a vehicle like this with 180,000 on it? How many miles can i expect to get on this mucly loved vehicle till i get any major problems?

The engine can easily go 300K.... transmission... well all depends. I have heard of one with 260K... I have almost 220K... but you, I and he are ending the useful life...

Now there is a string of characters that you don't see in here every day.... or EVER, even.

:D :D

what is this guy smoking? this makes no sense at all!

the transmission realistically should be expected to last about 165k.. IMO... mine lasted 150.

some people's dont even reach triple digits.

Mine is still going strong at just under 220,000. Has never needed work except the normal maintenance. :)

mine went at 80k miles..but no biggie.

my '95s went at 131k miles.

my moms '94 has 99k miles on it and the tranny has not gone into overdrive for about 20k miles..but the rest of the gears shift nice.

You jinxed the A4LD now!! I give it one month max! :D

I've owned:

Sold my 1992 4x4 at 145K...no trans problems and it was a work truck with HEAVY off road use.

1995 sport 4x4 lease...no trans problems.

1997 sport 4x4 lease...no trans problems.

2001 xlt 4x4 (own)...no trans problems.

Maybe I've been lucky?

Depends ALOT on how you drive, & what kind of mods you have. Having a lift & bigger tires puts more stress on the drivetrain. Performance mods like intake, bigger MAS & TB, open up the engine a little. Gunning it at every light, alot of high RPM shifts, alot of downshifting. Do you sit in traffic all day, drive at HW speeds etc. That all plays a role on your trans life. The weather does too.
