Hello, I'm pissed, help me. Today I went to the junkyard and got a new 4x4 module, since the old module seemed to be having issues. Either this current module is having issues, or something else is wrong. I fully replaced the module, destroying every push pin clip thing on the rear panel, to get to this and replace it. Just for it to have the exact same issue. It went into 4wd once in the 3 or so months i've owned it. I put it into neutral, push the brake all the way, push 4X4, and it just clicks in the rear end. Three times. I'm clueless. Please help me.

I tested the new module and got four blinks testing it. What's the first thing to look at?

Hi kindaclean93! On mine, I had to swap the shift motor from a junkyard find (also don't seem to be hard to find on eBay or other online sites) to get my 4x4 to work (no lights, no clicks, nothing). I think there's even an aftermarket part readily available. But you should probably check continuity between the buttons and the module first. The above linked troubleshooting thread was HEAVILY used when I was troubleshooting it. It seems to be cribbed at least in part from the official Ford service manuals for this vehicle, with other very useful info thrown in. It is absolutely invaluable. Download/print it/DON'T LOSE IT.. Now, all this said, I think my motor may have been "lost", because the motor position sensor was WAY off (see the shift motor rebuild thread linked to in the above linked thread). It's possible I could've gotten mine working, but it wasn't work the hassle for me.

When I bought my 91, the 4x4 didn't work at all. I pulled the shift motor, disassembled and found the bushing to be disintegrated. I left the screw and used a short length of vacuum hose that fit snuggly on the screw. Reassembled and presto mudding please
