My 1993 Ford Explorer stumbles occasionally and the red check engine light comes on, stays on for sometimes a short time and other times longer, and my gas guage always shows empty. I believe the float has developed a crack in the brass bulb and I plan on replacing the fuel pump and sender.

I don't thing the fuel pump would cause the red engine light to come on but it is a nuisance. I have recently seen that the red positive battery cable is corroding at the battery terminal so I plan to put a new positive battery cable on the vehice.

Does anyone have any ideas why the vehicle is stumbling and causing the red check engine light to come.

Any help would be appreciated and thanks.

Could be any number of things. Maf, Iac, coil pack, plugs, wires, leaking intake gasket, etc, etc, etc. First, have the codes pulled and then find out what they mean. Do a search of the forums using the preceding abbreviations and you will find plenty of information on how to clean and replace these things. If you won't/can't pull the codes then at least clean the Maf, Iac, change the plugs and wires, etc. Good Luck.

Thanks a bunch. Will clean those things tomorrow.

I pulled the codes and they referred me to the MAF which I cleaned and then I cleared the codes. That fixed the problem

Good to hear. Alot of the time it is just something simple, like the MAF that you cleaned.
