Hey Board-

I just have a simple question for anyone who happens to know the answer, I can't seem to find it anywhere on the web nor on these boards. (used the search)

My clutch looses pressure seemingly on cold days every now and then and I have to refill/re-bleed the line to get pressure back. My first thought is that it's that slave cylinder that needs to be replaced but I'm not 100% sure about that. The question is this... if it is slave... how do I get to it?

I've looked at the bell housing obviously while bleeding it and don't really see how to replace the slave without pulling the tranny out. Is this the case for a 1993 Ranger (2wd, 2.3L 4cyl) or is there something I'm missing somewhere?

I've also looked at the diagram on the autozone website but the diagram shows a different slave than the picture of the actual part.

Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Edit*... yes... I just saw that I jacked up the spelling of "cylinder" in the title.

You are correct, you need to pull the trans to replace the slave cylinder.

The autozone diagram is a generic pic, showing a basic clutch setup.
The actual part pic is correct.
And yes sadly, dropping the trans is the only way to get to the slave, unless you pull the engine instead!
Welcome to the forum.

Ugh... just what i didn't want to hear. :( thanks for confirming that.

The 2wd 2.3l trans is the easiest to pull. No transfer case to remove, no exhaust (like the 4.0l) in your way.

You see, Ford had a great idea. They figured out that they could eliminate the clutch fork in the diagram by placing the slave cylinder inside the transmission bell housing. So it is cheaper to manufacture. Great for them. Sucks for you. :p:
