I have a 1993 ford explorer that runs rough when its hot out. If the motor gets warm in the summer and i shut it off for about 20-30 minutes i will try and start it and it will start and run really rough. it will also run really rich. but once you get it in gear and take off it will run fine and be problem free. My mom blew the frost plug out at about 100,000 miles in 2000 and its done it ever since. I not sure what the problem is and neither does any body i've talked to about it. It currently has about 180,00 miles on it. If anybody knows what it is or has any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated. The Explorer is very reliable and that is the only problem with it.

Vacuum Leak, Bad tranny modulator valve, or bad O2 sensors!

Been there done that. All of it on my 94 with 260+ K miles on original motor and tranny..

Got a CEL? What codes?

Good luck!

Maybe you MAF is dirty. Easy to check.

Would the Transmission modulator valve make it so when i come to a stop it shifts from gear to gear from OD to 1?

I remember when my modulator valve went bad, all it did was suck my tranny fluid from my tranny pan and dump it into my oil pan. So eventually my tranny fluid got low (after a couple weeks) and caused my tranny to slip when going from park/reverse to drive. So until I fixed it I had to constantly put fluid in the tranny and drain the oil, lol. It didn't cause any overheating or engine issues though. When/if you change the valve, don't lose the small metal shaft (about an inch long from what I remember) that comes off with it! I lost mine without noticing when I replaced it and it caused my tranny to slip like crazy in every gear!
