Have bought a 1994 Ford Explorer rearend (3.73 gears, drum brakes) to install into an older truck.

I've noticed that there is an electrical wire that runs to the top of the rear differential 'pumpkin'.

I believe this is controls (engages/disengages) the 'limited slip' in the rearend, however at this point that is an 'uneducated' guess - (I'm not positive)...

Is this correct?
Is there any documentation on this, as far as wiring or use in non-standard or non-stock configurations?
Can it be manually manipulated (on, off, etc.,)?

If this is not the correct place to post these type of questions, can you point me in the right direction?

Thanks in advance -

Thats the rear ABS sensor.

The Limited slip differentials found stock in the explorer are the clutch style. You don't get to turn them on off.

Thanks Mark. Does it matter if that particular sensor is not plugged-in or used for my application? (i.e., no adverse effects?)...

The worst that will happen if the sensor is bad, or wire broken/disconnected is that your ABS won't work. That will give you a yellow warning light on your dash too.

there probably is no ABS on an on an older vehicle -- hence no problem :0)

What vehicles are you putting it under?

Heh, heh, heh... You might not believe it, but it's a 1939 Hudson pickup truck.

And, when that is finished - I've Got a '46 pickup that may get something similiar...(in disc brakes).

Just wanted to make sure that ignoring that electrical connection won't cause any issues... Thanks!

In that case, it won't affect anything to not connect any wires to the ABS sensor. :)

Nice project dude. You should document your build on a thread here. We aren't make/model snobs, besides it will have Explorer parts!

Cool!

I would have suggested you went with a 95+ rear end with disc brakes, help slow her down faster;)

The disk brake set up is bolt on- :-)
