1994 Explorer Tailgate Handle

I am having a problem with my tailgate handle on my 1994 Explorer. Sometimes (usually when your in a hurry) it binds up so bad that it will hardly turn it either direction without a real strain using both hands. It does not seem to be associated with the weather since it is the same no matter what the weather. Sometimes it is easier than others. Any thoughts. I can't locate a used one as yet. :exp:

mine does the same thing.. the handle mechanism is rusted. i thought it was the spring but it was fine. i need to go to a yard and pull 2 handles. in one truck its hard to turn, and the other sometimes free turns.

Pull the inside panel off and spray some PB Blaster on it and work it back and forth.

doesnt always fix the problem..

I took it apart and let the parts soak in PB blast for an hour. works fine now. Maybe try that.
