When installing the locking hubs back btw I forgot to mark them do they fit solid against the hub or not. I know they will install flat against he hub or I can leave about 1/4 inch gap and they will tighten up with lugs being torqued. Just not sure mine are not working anyway,Also with all wheels off the ground in 4x4 should both front axles be turning?Mine does not wondering the front drive is limited slip. thanks

They should slide flush to the hub. You may need to spin it around to get it to go on... the axle stub spline engages the inside of the hub, locked or not.

Other question - in 4x4, the driveshaft forward will be locked into the drivetrain. So, by rules of differentials, turning one wheel should turn the other wheel in the opposite direction. If you have a traction device in the front diff (not a factory option) then, in this configuration, neither front wheel should be able to turn.

If I have all four wheels off the ground in 4x4 drive only the passenger side axle turns. Is that the way its supposed to work.

Front passenger side only, and you are looking at the axle, not just the hub (ok, stupid questions, I just want to make sure I have this right in my mind).
Do you see the drive shaft from the diff to the TC turning?

Auto trans or manual? In what gear?

Yes I see the driveshaft to the TC and axle going to the passenger wheel.

If you have all 4 tires in the air, in 4x4 and truck in gear and only 1 of the front axles is turning then its either not a limited slip or a worn out limited slip. That is normal for a stock front end.

In either case is it working correctly? It is a stock front end 1994 XLT.Just not sure should both out put shafts be turning all the time?

if it is a stock front end than there is no locker or limited slip, it is an open front end. so if only one tire is spinning than yes thats normal. only both will spin if they both have near the same amount of traction. with all four tires in the air only one front tire will spin unless theres a traction device in the diff

Thanks so much for the clarification on this. Now onto repairing the hubs. Cleaning first if they still dont work I think I will take tem apart and try the washer suggestion . Thank alot fellas.

I did the automatic hub repair on pass. side put the wheel on. Got under with all wheels off the ground and turned the front wheel driveshaft and drivers side wheel turned . It has not turned at all in the past when trying this. With all wheels off the ground running in 4 wheel drive neither front wheel spins. Got me kinda confused to say the least.

did u over pack hubs with grease? auto hubs or manual? if auto hubs make sure u also put it in 4 wheel drive and drive about ten feet to ensure the auto hubs engage. if they dont engage properly they wont turn

No grease added trans. fluid only after cleaning. I had it on jack stands could not get it to turn although I did the washer repair on the pass. side first and tried turning the front driveshaft and the drivers side did work to my amazement.

now try jacking up just the pass side since its still not turning and rotate the driveshaft by hand and see what happens

I still cannot get it too work. Not sure why the drivers side worked though. I removed the washer I added in the pass. side hub because I thought it was to thick. RE installed wheel and turned front driveshaft again but this time the drivers side not turning. What would the 1/8 inch thick washer I added have to do with the drivers side wheel working. thanks

the washer itself will have nothing to do with drivers side working. only thing i could think of possibly happening is when you put the hub back on it wasnt engaged allowing the pass side axle shaft to turn before the driver side wheel because the axle is less weight and will start turning first. or the washer was taking up the gap in the cam gears and the drivers side just turned first and when the washer is removed the pass side axle shaft turns before the driver side wheel

I just dont understand whats going on . Like I said after removing the washer putting wheel back on neither wheels turns now. I am going to try a thinner washer on pass. wheel to see what happens. Like you said washer I would not think would have anything to do with drive side working,Could I have binded the pass. wheel with the spacer and caused the drivers side to turn drivers side had not been working before. thanks

Installed a smaller washer 1/16 inch maybe alittle more onto pass. wheel. Finally got it to lock in and turn along with drivers side . So everything seems to be working now. 4X4 low works fine also.Cleaned both hubs and hope this helps. Thanks for the help glad to have 4-wheel back have had to use it quite alot last two winters which is unusual in these parts . Thanks for your time and help
