93 XLT
Hi Guys, this is my first post on this forum so please bear with me. My son just bought a 93 Explorer XLT manual (his friend has a 94 auto):help:. The front left hub won't lock, the "switch" in the hub just turns through 360 degrees. I am looking to strip the hub and see whats wrong so my question is , are there any details of this preferably with pictures ? There are not a hell of a lot of Explorers in South Africa and left hand drive is a bit difficult here as we drive on the left hand side of the road.

Thanks very much guys that looks like just what I am looking for. We are going to strip it down Thursday night and see what we find. Thanks again.

It sounds safer because your further away from crazy drivers :)
Don't have to worry about running off the side of the road either :p:

The heading is actualy incorrect we have a problem with a manual hub.Driving on the left in a left hand drive vehicle makes it fun overtaking large trucks on a single lane highway.

Easy Fix ?

The boys started to strip the hub and it turns out that the plasic piece that you turn to lock the hub is broken on the inside. It fits over a metal lug that can best be described as a square shape with a pointed top(?).(I believe its called a "single hump (shame) locking key".) I would have thought this would have been made from aluminium. Does anyone know if this is a replacement part ?

Thanks BrooklynBay. I'm not sure there doesn't seem to be a name that we can see. How would I tell ?
