Hi All,
First post...I looked through the sticky 4x4 troubleshooting guide but couldn't find my issue directly. I also tried searching the forum, but no luck. Here's the problem: For about 1,000 miles, the light for 4x4 on the dash was on, but it wasn't engaged...occasionally it would turn off, and turn on every once and awhile, but no 4x4 engagement. Now it doesn't turn on at all and when I press the button on the dash, it doesn't light up and it doesn't engage. The control behind the driver's side rear seat (it's an XLT) seems to be functioning properly. What is the next thing I should look at to get to the root cause?
Thanks, Adam

if it was mine the next step i'd probably take would be to replace the switch itself. i've seen them on ebay for pretty cheap.

I'll give it a shot, thanks! Any other thoughts from the group?

Added location...

In the post, I can't find anything past checking the module. I don't hear a noise and would like to know what the next step in the troubleshoot would be.
Thanks! Adam

Module checks out okay, per the instructions in the walkthrough...didn't see anything about troubleshooting the shift motor...

...If you mouse over the highlighted words in that thread, they will link you to pages for each item...;)

oops, was looking at the 4x4 troubleshooting guide...so you suggest going right to the motor (I've looked around and folks say that is typically the problem)?

I should also add that, although the module is acting like it's okay per the 4x4 troubleshooting guide, I don't hear any clicking...is there a fuse or solenoid that I should look into?

Thanks for all your help!
