1995 Explorer Sport A/C Problem

Hey Guys. I'm new to the site, so I'm not sure if I'm posting this in the right area. Please don't bite my head off! Anyways, here is my dilemma, any suggestions/comments would be helpful. My windshield substained some damage over the weekend, so I had it replaced today. When I came home to meet the installer, my a/c was working just fine. A couple hours later, I went to leave and my a/c is doing nothing. When it is in the on position it does nothing, it doesn't matter what setting it is on. I checked my heater and it does the same. Nothing works! Could this be related to the new window install or is it just a coincident? Any ideas? I want good news, people! ;)

No nothing.... nothing happens when either one is turned on. No fan or hot/cold air... just silence.
 






sounds like the blower fuse or the motor itself. i'd check fuses first then determine where the problem is if not there.
 






Check the fuse, then check the resitor (behind the blower motor on the passenger side firewall), then the motor. Fairly easy to check these items.
 






So, another person told me to turn my a/c on in the lowest setting while driving today and then, when I stopped, to check for water dripping underneath my car? That was to check the compressor, I believe. I did that and maybe 10 minutes later, I started to fill cool air coming from my dash. I turned the knob up to max cool and it starting working. The air was cooler than it I remember it being before, but I'm not too sure if the vents are putting out as much force. If it was the blower/is the blower, would it just start working again? I took my fuse panel off to check the fuse, but then, decided to wait to do so because I was running late. It was after that that things start working. Could I have knocked something?

If there was no air movement before, that would tell me that the fan had no power. That is why I told you to check the fuse, the resistor coils, and the fan motor. If there was air movement but it was not cold, that would be a whole different set of items to troubleshoot.

Well, the blower quit working again. The fuses are fine. If you smack around on it enough, the blower will work on a low speed, but it quits shortly thereafter. It was useful enough to get my car home during a rain storm, though. Thanks. I'm going to see about that this weekend. It's been suprisingly cool with the rain, but I'm sure the Missouri humidity will be back to haunt us next week. And hey, in messing around with the fuses, a couple interior lights magically started working again. Who would have thought? I come from a family of mechanics, so I've always relied on them. They all have businesses now, though, so it's difficult to be penciled in. I have this long list of things that I need to do to my Explorer, so, I think I might start messing with things on my own. Scary! But the end results could be nice...
 






Sounds like a bad connection or potentially a grounding issue. Do yourself a favor and download the ford repair manual from ford cds (the link is in the useful links section, I dont remember it off the top of my head though). It's a big help with diagnosing problems. It could be something as simple as a bad connection between the wiring harness and the blower, or it could be a broken wire somewhere in the circuit. Best way to check is get the volt meter out and see if the blower is getting power. If it's getting power then the problem is most likely the blower motor itself, but if there isn't any power then you obviously have a problem somewhere else. Good luck, this board will help you a lot as you will find out!
 












The answer is the Blower relay under the hood!

I had / have the same problem. I purchased a new blower relay for $10. The relay is in the fuse box under the hood on the passenger side. Open up the cover and the labels for the relays are right there. I went to uninstall my defective relay and when I pulled on it to remove it I heard a click, and it came back on. So I just tighteden it down and keep the new one in the glove box just in case. I found this fix on this forum!:cool:
