Our 1995 V6 AOD Explorer shift lever does not engage the transmission. Xmsn is a fairly new rebuild and has run strong. I suspect a shift control cable, but cannot seem to find the item for sale on line. My Haynes Manual (1991-1995) showsa simple cable that works off the shift column and I believe this is the part that needs replacing.

Appreciate any help on this.

Easy way to know if it's the cable is to determine if it's coming out of park.
Does it roll when you come out of park and does park hold the truck after it's put back in?

get under the truck (driver's side) and have someone move the shift lever around to see it anything moves on the transmission end.

Cable seems fine as the selector moves the shift arm moves through what appears to be a full range when the selector lever is run from Park down through 1. I'm now thinking position sensor. I'm guessing here, but I believe there is a feedback sensor that loops to the computer indicating what position the shifter is in. If some one can clue me in a bit more on this possibility, I'd appreciate it.

Explorer rolls in all positions except Park. It will start in Neutral and Park. No apparent issues with shift cable or evidence of transmission failure.

Need some help troubleshooting the sensors - Thanks.
