1996 Sports doors won't unlock via key

1996 Sports doors won't unlock via key - I don't have keyless or remote door locks.

Have always used a key on the drivers door - hatch & passenger door haven't had the locks working for a while.

So I'm locked out of my truck with the only keys to get into it -

Try putting some graphite in the locks and see if that'll help.

Define "in them"?

I unlocked the drivers door after about 5 minutes of twisting & jiggling the key around.

Anything I can do to prevent this from happening?

Spray some WD-40 or other lubricant in the locks.
