1996 transfer case problem

transfer case sounds like it is slipping and grinding when it is in 4 wheel drive low and high. This is a 1996 4.0 Explorer.

At the beginning of this video you can hear a ratcheting sound when he's trying to climb the stump. Is that what you hear or is it different?

Your range hub is bad along with fork and more than likely the case has wear in the bore for shift fork rod.
