I have my 1997 explorer it has 185,x.. and when i start try to start her up the starter keeps going but the engine doesnt catch until i push on the gas pedal, once started it can accelerate normally but if i brake or turn then she stalls out.... for a while i'd just pop it into neutral and start her and keep going but now i have it parked.

i've heard it could be an issue with the vacuum lines and/or egr valve, if so what should i start with? and how should i go about it?

IAC valve then MAF sensor

The idle air control (IAC) valve controls the engine idle speed. The PCM commands the IAC valve to different idle speeds for Park/Neutral, transmission engaged and A/C compressor engaged. I suggest that you clean the IAC valve. The PCM uses the MAF sensor to determine the engine load. Clean it with MAF sensor aerosol that is available from your local auto parts stores.

ok so i tried cleaning the IAC, didn't work but i figured since i had already purchased MAF sensor cleaner i'd give it a shot... that helped a little bit. I later went to pep boys and got a new IAC the results....
braking going forward - stalls out
braking in reverse - rpm's dont drop AT ALL
and steering doesn't affect it at all anymore

I must say though that the stalling has been getting less and less frequent throughout the night of driving but it still doesn't turn over on the first try do you think i should just make a list of sensors to replace??

also i was thinking about the braking difference in drive and reverse... do you think the front brakes could be applying more force than the rear?
