I've searched here as to how to remove the AC clutch on one of my '97s and haven't found anything. Can someone direct me to a thread or tell me what is involved?
Thanks Y'all.

I did the one on my '04 Merc Sable and am sure the same is true on the Explorers. Of course, remove the center bolt and slip off the clutch plate. Then, there is a "C" clip that holds the pulley/bearing ass'y. May as well replace that while you're doing this. It needs to be pried off the shaft. If you decide to replace the coil, it needs to be pried off as well (usually more stubborn than the pulley).

@XLTrunner I wasn't sure if I needed some kind of puller. Thanks for the info. It's too bad that it is a single serpentine belt. Being one belt I'm committed to finishing the task once I start on it. Can I take just the front piece of it off to start with? You said a C-clip holds the pulley on?
Edited/added-I see what your saying...

Yeah...that front plate should slip right off once the center bolt is removed. Note, don't lose the spacer washer/washers that hide within the small hub on the backside of the clutch plate as those are what are used to achieve proper gap between the clutch plate and pulley face. In other words, as you remove the clutch plate, do not tip the rear of the plate downward or else those washers may fall out and scatter on you. No puller is required for removing the pulley and coil...just need to use something to tap on them from the backside to get them off the shaft (after you remove the "C" clip).
