1997 Explorer 5.0L Mods

Hello all,

I have a 1997 Explorer with the 5.0L in it. Want to start a thread on easy modifications you can do. One mod I have done ( not really a improvement ) is taken off the air intake silencer. Not really any extra pony's, but it does sound throatier and it might have helped me get 1 more MPG. It would be great if you have any simple mods like this that you could share.

Lots of stuff here. Search around. Plenty of mods to do to the 5.0. Not THAT easy, but plenty of options. I just added heat spacer as many others have, and hope to add Torque Moster Headers and a tuner one day. I think they win the vote for the best mods to the 5.0.

What are heat spacers? Removing the air intake silencer had to be the easiest free thing I have ever done I might be investing in a tuner in the future. Just thought I'd post a thread to see if anyone had any tips or any mods to give away. I am always having one of those days where I can't stop thinking what is the next thing I can do to my Explorer! lol.

Rizzjc, I have to ask about your little display picture in your profile, how did you end up getting that deep?? Thats pretty cool. Did you make it through or did you have to winch yourself out?

Well I guess yea.....lol. But I'm not a cheap kinda guy like that though. i Don't have no problem buying stuff. It's just im always thinking of what I can do next. And simple little mods like that help. ITs free!!!!!! hahahahahahahahaha

i removed my air intake silencer off my 01 sport. And i also did other mods on my 01 sport.

Yeah, it's a long story, culminating in that photo, but trust me, that's not what the plan was that day. Amazingly, with several repairs, the truck is still going at 160k, and still looks good.
